Renters Insurance Companies

There are many renters insurance companies in existence today. Renters insurance companies are just regular insurance companies that offer renters insurance policies. Finding a company that issues renters insurance is not a problem. Finding affordable rates isn’t a problem either. Finding an insurance company that can issue a policy that suits your needs is also fairly easy. Finding an insurance company that you can trust to be there when you need them, however, can present a problem.

You’ve probably heard the nightmarish stories of people who paid their insurance premiums on time every single month for years and years – only to find themselves without coverage when they desperately needed it. This is because some insurance companies are running scams. In many cases, however, it isn’t really the insurance companies that are scamming their customers – it is actually the independent agents! You must use caution!

When you find an agent that you feel that you want to do business with, it is important to do your homework. Ask them what insurance company or companies will be underwriting the policy. You see, in the event of a disaster, it isn’t the agent that will be paying you – it is the underwriting company. With this information, contact the underwriter to be sure that they do indeed underwrite the policies for that particular agent.

Your next stop or call should be your state’s insurance board. All insurance companies – and their agents – are regulated by the state’s insurance board. This is where you can find out if there have been any complaints against the insurance agency. This is important information. Some agents collect the monthly premiums that are paid, but fail to send the payments on to the underwriting company. This makes your policy lose effect – and leaves you without coverage! This is a common scam that unsavory insurance agents run…then they give the customer and the insurance company some lame excuse if they get caught.

When dealing with renters insurance companies, make sure that you don’t get caught in one of these scams. It takes just a few minutes and a couple of phone calls to find out if the insurance agent in question is on the up-and-up. Make sure you take the time to find out who you are dealing with, and if you can trust them!
